When we want to learn, traditionally we go to a source outside of ourselves. We pick up a book. We ask a would be expert. We google something on the internet. We think what we need to learn will come from an expert or an outside source, but the High Priestess reminds us that some truths can only come from within.
She contemplates us calmly, enigmatically. She reminds us that the inner workings of our own mind can be as much of a mystery as a complex physics problem; and like anything worthwhile, it takes work.
Learning physics is a long, difficult process. Learning about ourselves is every bit as complex and difficult. We have to be willing to put in the work.
Be quiet. Be still. Find that tranquil place deep inside yourself. We need to learn to dwell there. We need to learn to empty our minds and let the quiet do the rest.
If you've been following my blog or my Instagram, you'll have learned that I'm a firm believer in the importance of meditation and dream work. Allowing your mind to go quiet, reveling in that empty still space helps to let the inane monkey mind chatter to fall away. The grocery list and the remembering to clean the litter box can wait for a few moments. The Universe is waiting.
We're small bits of an Universe that stretches and expands far beyond our ability to comprehend. Our dreams can give us small glimpses into that magical mystery; into the unknown.
The High Priess is an important stop for the Fool. She emphasizes our connection to something larger than ourselves. The Magician taught the Fool about balance and moderation in all things. The High Priestess teaches us the importance of looking within.
If you need to change your alternator, if you need new glasses, if you want to learn to speak French, you're going to need outside help. You're going to need that expert; that book; that tutoring program.
If you want to learn about the workings of your own soul, you are going to have to do the work. You're going to have to go inside. You might want to keep a dream journal and think about the imagery you see, especially if it reappears.
There are no short cuts. There are no easy to follow directions. The High Priestess reminds the Fool that the journey will be long. There are many lessons to be learned; one of the most important being to find that connection within yourself; to remember that you are a small but essential part of the Universe.
You have as direct a connection to the divine as anyone else. Don't accept easy answers. Don't settle for surface knowledge. Go inside. Go deep.
You deserve everything.
